The album features musical and production collaborations with Simon Le Bon, Nile Rodgers, Tony Visconti, and Evan Dando. The album track “I Am A Scientist” was written by David Bowie and features Nile Rodgers on rhythm guitar. The first single “We Used To Be Friends” went on to become the theme song for the popular TV seriesVeronica Marsand its film adaptation, and follow-up singles were “You Were The Last High” and “Plan A”.

The musical style ofWelcome to the Monkey Housewas described by XRay Magazine as a “belligerent, snotty-nosed, speed-fueled romp through sinister electro punk, slightly corrupt melodic rock and skew-whiff handle of 80s glam-sodden pop, albeit refracted through a knowing noughties thrift store cool”. The album cover artwork was created by Ron English and is a prime example of the artist’s signature mash-up style, featuring a banana half-exposed by a zipper down its peel in a reference to the iconic Andy Warhol album covers for The Velvet Underground’sThe Velvet Undergroundwith Nico, and The Rolling Stones’sSticky Fingers.
